Although based in London, Disturbing Images also leads a multi award winning filmmaking youth group in Bournemouth for ages 16-25.
Formed as part of the YMCA and funded by the BFI, the aim of the project is to train young people in the skills of filmmaking from scriptwriting to editing. They are in charge of the projects and make the decisions, guided by us. The films we make are mainly intended to benefit the community in some way so themes have included teenage drinking, sexual health and climate change.
So far we have won an MTV Boom award, a Prince’s Trust award, and several One Voice awards.
We also put on an international film festival every year called One Voice. Entries come in from all over Europe and awards are judged by independent industry experts.
